Well this tournament needs no fluff so we will get right into it. Here is MidCals by the numbers.

10 Nationally Ranked Wrestlers (according to Flowrestling)

50 wrestlers ranked in the top 10 in CA (thank you ccsrank.com)

6 of the top 10 teams in California will be making an appearance this year.

5 of the top 25 schools in the Nation will be at MidCals (https://intermatwrestle.com/rankings/high_school/Team)

137 wrestlers ranked in the top 40 in CA will be participating.

So, interested yet?

Weight Class to Watch

120 lbs. is going to be insane!!! 3 nationally ranked wrestlers, the top 4 ranked wrestlers in California, and a stud from Tuttle makes this the weight class to watch. The top 5 are nails and 6-11 are nearly as good. Leaving MidCals with hardware at 120 lbs. this year is going to be a feat. If the current seeds hold #3 in CA, Cole Reyes (Frontier), will face #4 in CA, Devin Murphy (Clovis North), in the QUARTERFINALS!!! That is nuts. With #9, #17, and #18 in the country above those two in seeding this weight is going to get crazy.

Monster Match Ups

Chase Zollman (Poway) is scheduled to meet Gilroy's Alex Felix in the finals if the seeds hold. These future NCAA DI wrestlers will quench your thirst for high quality high school wrestling.

At 132 lbs. we may see a monster match up in the finals with Alex Felix (Gilroy) coming down from 138 lbs. (where he was ranked 3rd) for the first time this season to meet Chase Zollman (Poway) who is currently ranked 2nd at 132 lbs. Felix has committed to Ohio State and Zollman to Wyoming so these future NCAA DI wrestlers, who are both nationally ranked, will surely deliver a high level final, assuming #10, #15, and #17 in CA don't do any upsetting.

At 160 lbs. #4 in the country Dustin Plott (Tuttle, OK) will most likely face #2 in CA Noah Blake from Del Oro. This is going to be a match up college coaches should come out and watch with Blake only a Junior and Plott just a Sophomore. I am sure these two are both high up on the big boards at wrestling schools across the country.

Our last Monster Match Up is at 170 lbs. and will actually be the semi final if the seeds hold. Trent Tracy of Frontier is currently ranked #2 in CA and will meet with Mark Cardwell of Monache who is ranked #3 in CA. Cardwell will have to get through local returning state place winner Joe Barnes (Gilroy) in the quarters, and if he does we will see a CA 2 vs. 3 in the semis.

This tournament has so many other match ups and tough weights to talk about but it would be better for you to just come to Gilroy and watch.
